Promoter of High Technology
Oulu Innovation´s task is to promote high technology –related business in the Oulu region. The Oulu innovation strategy, Oulu Regional Centre of Expertise programme and the Invest in Oulu are the most important operations managed by the company. Oulu Innovation was founded in the beginning of 2005 when Technopolis Plc span off the Oulu Regional Centre of Expertise programme and established a separate company. Vision Oulu Innovation is the leading national organiser and coordinator of innovation networks in chosen fields of knowledge-based industry, an attractive partner in international co-operation and the main builder and manager of innovation-based business development network. Mission Oulu Innovation promotes the competitiveness of cutting-edge business expertise in the Oulu region as well as increases the region´s attractiveness as an operating environment for skills and business development. Shareholders The main shareholders of Oulu Innovation are the City of Oulu and Technopolis Plc. The former owns currently 42 percent of the shares and the latter 13 percent. In addition, the shareholders include nine municipalities surrounding Oulu, some twenty important technology companies, the Oulu University Scholarship Foundation, Oulu University of Applied Sciences, VTT, Finnvera and Oulu Chamber of Commerce. The shareholder companies represent the target fields of Oulu Innovation, and thus, they mainly operate in the fields of information, communication, wellness, bio and environmental technology. Finance Oulu Innovation is a non-profit company. It sells services and is funded by the following financing bodies: enterprises, City of Oulu, municipalities in the Oulu region, Council of Oulu Region, Oulu State Provincial Office, Ministry of the Interior, Northern Ostrobothnia Employment and Economic Development Centre and Tekes.
